MLM - Why Most People DO NOT and WILL NOT Make More Money Than They Will Spend - Part Seven

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

One of the greatest problems that I see in Multi Level Marketing is when promises do not meet reality. I had more than ten years of experience and I saw it from day one right through until the day I quit.

For example - a DAY 1 technique that is promoted …

You are taught to invite all your friends over for a dinner party, assemble them in a room and then… all of a sudden…

Captain MLM jumps out of the corner cupboard. “Hi there!”

Your (former) friends all stare goggle-eyed at this guy who is wearing a dark suit, white shirt and red tie (it has to be RED because red is the symbol of power). He carries a briefcase, a white board, an easel and has a trunk full of product samples in his vehicle.

That is your first introduction to deception - BAIT and SWITCH.

Those who join you in “the business” start off all starry eyed and full of hope that this might be something that will make them millions. That is what they are told anyway.

Then the upline slowly starts to get to WORK on them telling them they gotta do this and they gotta do that. All of a sudden they find that they gotta do all sorts of things that were never mentioned at the first “opportunity” meeting which was originally cleverly disguised as anything else just to get them there.

In other words “A” does not equal “B″. This is the first conflict of the mind. If you challenge any of this then you are “counseled″ just to explain why it will not only benefit YOU but ALL the people who you will sponsor. Another good name for this counseling would be brainwashing. But, as it is explained - “it is all for the greater good of the group!”

In the final installment of this MLM expose series I will wrap up. Part eight will discuss perhaps the most heinous technique that MLM big pins will use to CONVERT you into a zombie that has one expectation for them - to keep making THEM money while you are beavering away doing all the work.

Starting an internet business will take some research on your behalf. This is mostly because of the number of internet business opportunities that are available to the beginner. Many newcomers come in search of starting an internet business only to find that they are scammed time and time again by websites promising to make them thousands of dollars in a very short period of time.

Here are a few things to look out for when starting an internet business. Don’t pay for anything that promises to turn you into a millionaire overnight. It just isn’t possible. Look for things like 24 hour phone or e-mail support in case you have a question about something. Also never buy anything that doesn’t come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back. Any reputable program for starting an internet business will have no problem doing this if it really is worth while.

Be prepared to put in the time and effort it will take for starting an internet business.

Learning from already successful people is the quickest an easiest path to starting an internet business that will earn you money. Make the time to work on your new online business. The Truth About Online Business

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Online Business is not a difficult thing to do, and really anybody can do it, but if you don’t know how, then regardless of the nature of the business, it will be hard for you to achieve your goals even if you have the magical product or service. I am sure that many try to answer the “how” question by bombarding you with many e-mail messages telling you all different sorts of ways to market or advertise online, and each way is said to be the best way that can generate traffic, sales, exposure …etc.

But talking about “how” to promote or market your online business means that we are jumping too many steps ahead. Before the “how,” there is a “what″ that we need to answer. You need to assess yourself first and not the idea or opportunity. So before venturing into the ins and outs of internet marketing, you should first venture into knowing “what″ are your own beliefs and expectations.

If you are interested and serious about establishing a home based business and to enable you to proceed on solid grounds we need to erase some false perceptions and agree about few others regarding the nature of home based business or online business. The points that we need to clear out are as follows:

1- There is no such thing called a get rich quick program. The concept simply does not exist. When you read “Start earning now,” it really means that you can start your business now, but the money will not come in “NOW.”

2- There is no program that will give us $5000 a month within six months of starting the business. Some people might be able to achieve that, but that is not a general rule that we can depend on.

3- There is no business that does not require effort. At least in the building stage. There is a lot to learn, read and research.

4- There is no business that does not require time. You should be prepared to spare at least 2-3 hours a day for your business, and with these 2-3 hours don′t expect miracles. This means that you are really taking your time and the business will see results any time soon. Still you will need to know that with this amount of time you will be establishing yourself as an internet marketer but at a slow pace.

5- There is no business that does not require money. Seriously speaking, online business and home based business in general is by nature a low investment industry. Still low investment does not mean for free. You will need to budget $300 - $500 a month to be able to work in this industry, and do not believe anybody who tells you otherwise.

The initial investment might be $100 or even less, but what about all the marketing activities and the advertising that you will need to do. This requires money, and only if you were able to budget for the above amounts you will be able to get your business off the ground.

Even if you are not going to use paid advertising and you will only use free methods – which are very effective by the way – you will need to buy software programs that will enable you to use your limited 2-3 hours efficiently and effectively.

6- You will need to expect to spend the above amounts for several months before expecting any kind of revenue. Don’t forget that you will have to walk through the learning curve first before any revenue is expected let alone profit.

My genuine advice to you would be not to enter into any online business idea or venture if you are not able to meet the above requirements and beliefs.

Work at Home Leads

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Running a successful business means building up your clientele and selling your business or services. Yet, for many home based business owners, developing work at home leads can be very challenging. Still, there are some basic ways to generate work at home leads along with some high tech methods to generate more clients and more revenue.

Communication is the key to developing work at home leads that will eventually become regular clientele for your business. There are a number of ways for you to communicate with people so that you can continue to build your work at home leads. One effective way to communicate with others in order to build work at home leads is to network. Networking is a way of meeting people and building relationships with them via a third party.

Networking can come through various means, but it is still an effective way to develop work at home leads. There are a number of networking groups in your geographic area that allow businesses to develop work at home leads. Usually these are groups that meet at specified time each month, and they are great if you want to network to build work at home leads but may be wary of “cold-calling” or just walking up to strangers. In these groups you are expected to network and talk about your business, so it breaks the ice more easily when you are building your work at home leads.

Another way to network to build work at home leads is to use the internet. The web has a number of networking sites and chat rooms where you can build those work at home leads. Just make sure you check the rules of any sites to make sure you are not in violation of the guidelines by building your work at home leads.

Another way to develop work at home leads is to ask your current clientele for referrals. Referrals are a great way to build your business, as work at home leads that come from referrals probably already have a good opinion of your business. Still, you will need to communicate with these work at home leads like you would in a networking group to find out what your work at home leads need from your business and then show them how you will meet their needs. Plus, people in your networking group may be able to offer referrals for work at home business leads, but remember to return the favor by also offering them leads, too.

Your website is another effective way to build work at home leads. Remember to be specific when you are creating the work at home lead generating page. You do not just want to generate general work at home leads, but instead you will want to have a work at home lead generating page that allows you to simplify the process of sorting your work at home leads along with getting to know your potential clientele.

Time And Patience Is The Key To Operating A Successful Home Business

Monday, July 28th, 2008

“You can have instant success and wealth just by starting a home business.” I’m sure you have heard or seen this before. But what you may not have realized is this is the biggest home business scam on the internet, and if you start a home business based on this concept then you will fail before you ever get started because it takes a lot of time and patience to become successful.

There are many reasons why it is impossible to go from broke to rich over night. If you have never started a home business before, then you have no idea what is involved in the running of your own business. You are the writer, advertiser, customer service, and boss. You have to be able to take on all these duties at once while seeing little results in the beginning.

This is certainly not to scare you away from starting a home business, because there are extremely promising benefits. But it is important that you know the hard work and patience that is required to become successful. If everyone started a home business online expecting to become rich after a short time, there would be no businesses online.

When you break down what goes into a successful home business, it becomes obvious why you really can’t have immediate success. It all begins with the planning and research. You have to research what the public wants and that it is not a difficult field to enter. Certainly you do not want to be going up against extremely successful businesses for your competition. Take your time to do your research. Do this properly and your time and patience will greatly increase your chance at success.

Once you know what field you want to get into, you have to lay out your plan. Who is going to be your target market? How are you going to promote your home business and products to them? How much will it cost to get your home business up and running? When do you want to accomplish certain goals? These are just a few of the many questions you can expect to deal with.

Finally, once you have done the research, chosen the field, created a plan and set some short term and long-term goals its time to get started. Now you get to have some fun with creating your website and content. How you design your home business website can determine the type of business you actually get. Everything from the font color to the amount of graphics you and the placement of these things matters when designing the website.

The content you produce says a lot about your home business. People do not have time to read useless and eccentric content that goes on forever. You have to provide fresh and enticing content that gets right to the point. The more you can produce content that readers have not seen before, the easier it will be to get them to come back.

This is all very overwhelming at first, but believe it or not I have just touched on what goes into starting an internet business. It truly is rewarding to start a home business. With a little patience and dedication you can become very successful. As you can see, it is not going to come over night, time and patience is truly the key to operating a successful home business.

Do You Know Your Numbers - Part 2

Monday, July 28th, 2008

In the last email I sent I got into a preliminary discussion
about why your company’s conversions statistics are so
important to the overall success of your business.

Today I want to dig into that discussion a little deeper.

If you know the conversion factors for your business you
really can set your path to success, but they′re really a
whole lot more powerful than just this.

Here’s why . . .

(I am going to be using the conversion statistics for my own
business as a roadmap for this discussion as they are the
conversion statistics which I am most familiar with.)

In my business I know that:

5 to 22% of the leads generated end up signing up for a free
trial in our business.

65% of those leads that come in end up becoming full fledged
active members.

24% of the free trail members will upgrade to a premium
level from the outset.

25% will duplicate

So by knowing these figures I’m able to really see clearly
and concisely what I have to do to grow my business at a
consistent pace.

There are no secrets. This is good because it takes away all
false expectations.

IMPORTANT FACT!!!

Most people that join a network marketing company online or
off set false expectations because they just don’t know any
better.

For instance, I′ve heard on more than one occasion from a
new team member that they are going to go out and sponsor
100 people by the end of the month or they want to be at X
level by X date.

I always reply great!

But I immediately go into our business’s conversion
statistics so that they can know exactly what it will take
for them to reach such a level in their time frame.

It’s great to be excited from the outset, but most people
sugar coat the work involved with a high level of success
and the best way to shed light on what it will take for them
to reach their goal is to give them the cold hard facts from
the beginning.

But . . .

You can’t do this unless you know them!

This is why it is so essential to know your numbers.

The truth is extremely powerful and even more important it
is essential to the success of every new member that joins
your business.

Without it they will almost always set false expectations
and when things don’t work out the way they THOUGHT they
would from their own fanciful goals the get frustrated and
will most likely give up.

Further they will probably be upset with their sponsor for
not giving them the full story.

If you don’t give every member of your team the truth based
on the numbers as soon as they walk through the door you
will be doing a great disservice to them.

Here’s an equally powerful way that knowing the numbers can
serve you in your business growth.

If you hear of anyone on your team or within your company
that is using one marketing method to be highly successful
you can track EXACTLY what it has taken them to achieve
their success down to the dollar!

For example . . .

A while back I heard about a couple different ways that
people within my company where using to generate a high
level of success quickly.

Well if you don′t know the numbers you would most likely say
to yourself.

WOW! That sounds like its working great! It’s the “NEW” key
to success!

And you may run off to give it a try.

Most likely your results will not match the original user’s
level of success and you’ll say to yourself “What am I doing
wrong?”

Well the numbers never lie.

If you are armed with your company’s conversions statistics
you can go and do a test of the new marketing method.

For instance, if this new marketing method cost your say $5
to generate a lead you will see that from this one piece of
information alone you can track a path all the way back to
the TRUE COST of success of the original user of the
marketing method.

How?

Well if it cost you $5 to generate a lead mimicking their
marketing method to a tee and it takes you 100 leads to
generate 10 new team members then you know that it cost them
$5 to generate a lead and have the same conversion ratio.

So you know if they grew their business by 50 people in one
month it most likely took them at the very least 500 leads
to generate this amount of business growth and that’s with a
stellar high conversion rate of 10%.

So if you know it took them 500 leads to generate these 50
new team members you will quickly see that it cost them 500
times $5 which equals $2500 to generate this success.

So what looked like a no-brainer marketing method quickly
becomes something very different if you know the numbers
driving the success.

Now depending on your company this may be an acceptable
marketing cost for the response generated, but you only know
this if you know the numbers.

Remember the numbers never lie!

How To Become A Work At Home Mom

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

1 - Start A Daycare Service In Your Home

Care for other working parent’s children in your home. Talk to friends, family and other parents you know to find prospective customers. Make a list of services you will provide (meals, diapers, activities, etc.) and estimate how much money you will spend to provide these items. Consider the value of your time and your services to determine an hourly or weekly rate to charge customers. Discuss your ideas with people who are experienced childcare professionals. They may provide insight to important issues and offer helpful advice.

Benefits: Spend every day with your child. Earn some extra money without leaving your home.

Necessities: Honest love of children. Patience. Time management and organizational skills. Adequate space and hazard free home.

Considerations: State laws vary, but certifications, approvals, inspections, and licenses are required for some home childcare providers. Check out the rules in your state, as well as possible county or local government regulations.

Drawbacks: Lack of quiet time. Less individual interaction with your own child.

2 - Start A Word-Processing/Data-Entry Service

Brush up on your typing skills and put that computer to use. Talk to friends, family or local business people to get leads to clients, who may be in need of this type of service. Decide what types of documents you will offer to prepare for customers (newsletters, resumes, business cards, legal documents, menus, medical transcriptions etc.) Research prices and options available at other businesses that provide similar services. Name your new company. Create sample flyers of your work and distribute at offices, malls, hospitals, restaurants and any other place that could use your services. Advertise for free by word of mouth. Or market your services with advertisements in local newspapers, business journals, radio, and public television networks.

Benefits: Make your own hours. Potential to earn fairly good profit depending on your time commitment.

Necessities: Good computer. Knowledge of word-processing programs, like Microsoft Windows or Word Perfect. Area in your home for your office (not the living room with the television and your toddler to divert your attention).

Considerations: Set up contracts with your customers that will clarify your services, fees, and payment terms. Check with a lawyer to determine best way for you to develop a contract that will ensure you get paid for your work.

Drawbacks: Establishing yourself in business will require some start-up money to advertise and attract initial customers. Ability to devote certain days/hours to working in your office at home without distractions.

3 - Become An Affiliate Salesperson for Health Products, Lingerie, Handmade Baskets or Similar Items

If you′re interested in cosmetics, consider companies, like Avon or Mary Kay. If healthy living is your priority, seek opportunities with businesses that specialize in nutrition products, vitamins, holistic medicine, or health supplements. Whether you like Tupperware, books or toys, there’s various options to work from home as an independent distributor, telecommuting representative or sales associate with a manufacturer, who makes something you know about, believe in or want to learn about.

Benefits: Work independently in already established business. Choose your hours and level of commitment that will determine your income.

Necessities: Knowledge of whatever you’re selling. Some sales experience or a desire to learn how to sell. Ability to talk to people you don’t know and captivate their interest in the product you’re promoting.

Considerations: Make sure you understand terms of manufacturer’s contract, like your commission, initial investment, length of contract. It’s worth having a lawyer look over a document before you sign it. Ask questions before you commit to anything.

Drawbacks: No guaranteed income. Your earnings depend on your sales.

4 - Start A Tutoring Service Or Offer Private Lessons

Some parents don′t have time or energy to help their children with homework. If you like working with kids and have the ability and knowledge to assist students with a particular subject, consider offering to tutor kids afterschool or on weekends in your home. If the thought of homework still gives you a headache, think about what talents you have that you could share with other people. Some parents seek one-on-one instruction for their kids that schools seldom offer in regular classes. Consider some popular subject areas, like piano lessons (or any musical instrument instruction), dance classes, art training, or writing workshops.

Benefits: Personal reward for providing others with knowledge and skills that are meaningful to you. Set your own schedule.

Necessities: Knowledge of subject matter. Ability to teach what you know to someone else in a way that is understandable, interesting and professional.

Considerations: Responsibility for other people’s children while they’re in your home. Credentials to prove your qualifications, if ever questioned.

Drawbacks: Patience and true passion for what you′re teaching. Potential for people to cancel at last minute or not show up at all for scheduled lesson, which could negatively effect your income.

5 - Start A Sewing Business

If you have a flair for fixing tears, mending seams, altering outfits or making custom clothing, dig that old sewing machine out of the attic, figure out how to get it running again, thread a needle, push some pins, and practice stitching something. If you find out it still fits your fashion sense. If you feel confident and capable after a few crash courses, consider contacting local clothing stores, who may keep lists of referrals for their customers in need of alterations. Look for other places to publicize your new business pursuit, like local drycleaners, Laundromats, schools, wedding shops, or craft stores. Once you get a few satisfied customers, you can almost count on word-of-mouth to carry your name to more people in need of sewing services.

Benefits: Decide how much work you want to do and when you want to do it. Sewing projects can be done in phases, for example, maybe you have an hour to make some minor alterations, while your children are sleeping or 15 minutes to finish fixing a tear, while you’re watching the evening news.

Necessities: Professional Seamstress skills. A good sewing machine. Materials, like thread, needles, pins etc.

Considerations: Must be able to provide the professional services that customers are paying for and deliver on your promises in a timely fashion.

Drawbacks: Potential for problems with sewing machine that you cannot fix. Ability to deal with demanding people, like customers who can afford custom tailored clothing and expect absolute perfection.

6 - Start Selling Your Homemade Arts And Crafts

If you have a knack for creating arts and crafts, like dried flower wreaths, pottery, silk flower arrangements, wooden furniture, calligraphy prints, paintings, or stylish jewelry, turn your home-based hobby into profit in your pocket. Test the market before you make 100 beaded necklaces or build up a stockpile of silk flowers for your future business. Go to craft fairs, art shops, flea markets, and other places that sell products similar to your specialty. Check out the competition - what’s hot - what’s not - prices and talk to people. If you feel confident that your creation is a winner, rent a stand at a craft show to see if it sells. After exploring your market, you will be able to decide how to continue or what to change to succeed at selling your homemade arts and crafts creations.

Benefits: Get paid for doing something you enjoy and decide when you want to work.

Necessities: Focus and commitment to create your products with a personal touch and perfection in bulk quantity. Desire to sell whatever you make.

Considerations: Loss of credibility with customers, if claims about your custom products fail to be completely factual.

Drawbacks: No guaranteed income. Self-motivation to make and sell your special arts and crafts.

7 - Start An Errand Service

There’s plenty of people from busy professionals and bachelors to single parents and senior citizens, who don’t have time or transportation to pick up prescriptions, drop off dry cleaning, shop for groceries or other goods. If you don’t mind shuttling your kids from store to store, shopping from someone else’s list or waiting in line to place an order or pay for a purchase, consider offering to complete these types of errands for other people. Contact friends, family, local businesses, or senior centers, to find people, who fit the profile of someone who would be benefit from this service. If you get a few satisfied customers, word-of-mouth should pave a path to other people, who would pay you to run their errands.

Benefits: Make your own hours and choose your customers.

Necessities: Reliable vehicle. Knowledge of geographic area, Patience and ability to pay attention to details and each customer’s specific desires and directions.

Considerations: Automobile insurance. Responsibility for someone else’s valuable personal goods. Whether it’s their clothing or their medicine, they’re trusting you to treat it like it was your own priceless possession. (Don’t hang the freshly dry-cleaned $200 suit in the back seat next to your two year-old, who’s drinking his little cup of grape juice)

Drawbacks: Ability to devise efficient, economical plan to deliver services to customers. Kids can get bored quick in the car and kids can run away and wreak havoc in stores. (But depending on the age of your children - they can offer valuable assistance and learn something by helping you find items on your shopping list at some stores.)

Article Marketing - Don’t Forget Why You Are Doing It

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Probably the easiest and cheapest method of generating traffic for your opt-in list sign up page or your website is Article Marketing. In order to be successful it needs to be done properly and the focus needs to be writing the article with good quality content so they click on the link in the resource box. The article should also be lightly seeded with appropriate keywords to register in the search engines when published.

There are a hatful of tools and software available on the Internet which are meant to make the creation of an article as simple as possible. Do not get the misconception that you just plug in a few words here or there and out pops the perfect article. The bulk of these software systems take an existing article and will modify words within it with synonyms (words of a similar meaning). Plagiarism is a dirty word and this sort of adjustment is plagiarism in disguise, so be very careful.

Some common mistakes that are made by many writers when setting up to market an article are outlined below:

1 - Ensuring that the article reads smoothly from the start to the finish.
Most inexperienced writers will try to write an article without any idea of what they want to say. They miss the important step of planning the article and the various steps needed from the beginning to the end. This really is a hit and miss method and can be very infuriating when you proof read it and it is not what you really want. Start off in a professional manner and create the article plan. Start with the subject of the article, then the various points of discussion - could be pros and cons or whatever, and finish up with a conclusion.

2 - Forgetting the reason that you are writing the article.
There is only one reason that you are writing the article and that is to provide your reader with good quality information. You may well have ulterior motives for submitting the article to article directories and the like, to get some traffic from your links in your resource box as well as establish higher rankings in the search engines. If the article is not interesting to your readers then they will never reach your resource box and click on your link. You must also remember that many article directories will refuse to publish your article if they deem it of poor quality.

3 - Not taking advantage of the promotional opportunity available.
Not only the resource box link will bring visitors. Placing keywords within the article in strategic places will afford you a better chance of getting search engine traffic. Since the article directories in general do not allow anchor text links, or links of any kind within the article itself, that keyword placement is very important.

4 - Publishing content that does not help your readers.
The content you provide in your article needs to be focused on the niche market for which you are writing. If the content does not match, or is of little interest to the prospective readers, it will end up in the also rans. Quality content is the target as well as content that is informative to the reader and conjures up enough interest for the reader to click on your link in the Author’s Box.

In order to ensure success it is very important to remember that the plan needs to be formulated around your objective for writing this article. In other words, why are you writing this article? Obviously it is to submit to article directories, announcement lists, or Ezine directories. Write the articles that publishers want in their publications if you want your article marketing to work the most effective way for you.

MLM Training - Are You Getting Any?

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

MLM company training typically incorporates lots of hype, with claims of superiority, extravagant growth, and other big language. That type of training is typically not very helpful. A large percentage of people involved in network marketing have no experience with any type of promotion or marketing. This type of training usually leads the average person to frustration and possible failure.

Are you a salesperson?

The vast majority of people who get into network marketing are not salespeople, nor do they wish to become one! Yet the training people get from their uplines goes something like this: Now that you’ve joined, get your entire family and all your friends to join you! Go out there and talk to everyone within three feet! Get out of your comfort zone! Get 100 no’s! Make 50 dials a day! This type of training tries to turn trainees into salespeople. In network marketing, this leads to frustration and discomfort because people don’t like to sell or be sold, especially by their friends and family.

Here’s the funny thing: In my previous life, I was in sales! I sold everything from garbage services to advertising, and I was successful, too. When I got into network marketing, I thought, No problem, piece of cake, I can sell anyone anything; this will be easy. Guess what? It was hard. I did everything my upline told me to do, and I still didn’t have success. When I asked what else I could do, I was told to just keep talking to people and not to quit. What kind of training is that?

Do you have a simple, duplicable system?

In network marketing you need a system for promotion, presentation, and follow-up that is simple and duplicable—a system the average secretary, plumber, teacher, mechanic, retiree, salesperson, or CEO can follow. A system that’s rejection-free. For you to have success, a good upline needs a training system in place to teach people about people. Network marketing is a teaching and mentoring business, and in order to be successful, you must understand people and what makes them tick. Most MLM upline training consists of telling people it’s a numbers game. Have you ever been treated like a number? Did you like it? How did it make you feel? Is that the way you want to make people feel? It’s not a numbers game—it’s about people, and people are not numbers.

Most MLM companies don’t provide training that’s worth a hill of beans. Typically, it consists of a lot of motivation and “you can do it” hype. That’s okay. Believe it or not, the company’s job isn’t to train the distributors in the field; their job is to manufacture and ship the products and then send us our checks. That’s why it’s so important to find an upline or team that has a system already in place, a system that you can plug into for some good meat-and-potatoes training and that has great support and makes you feel part of a team, not alone on an island, struggling to survive. When you find a MLM team with good, solid training in place, it will be magic!

Your Best Home Based Business MLM Strategy

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

My wife … I hope you can hear me. she’s not far away, so I have to whisper … Cheryl is a “neat freak.”

A place for everything and everything in its place.
Take off your shoes before you track dirt in the house.
Don’t eat in THAT chair.
If you dirty a dish, wash it!

Cheryl hates disorder. The rest of us who live in this house are NOT neat freaks. Not by a long shot. We seem to revel in disorder … like most of the world. That is what makes it so difficult for everyone to use the #1 best home-based business MLM strategy: FOCUS!

In the physical world, disorder is called “entropy.” In 1856, Rudolf Clausius proposed the Law of Entropy: over time, the entropy of any closed system increases. It’s true even for my wife. Proof: just look inside her purse. She straightens it up on a regular basis because it gets wild in there on a regular basis.

Which brings me to your MLM business opportunity.

Here’s what I see. You struggle for awhile, and then you figure out a system that really works to build your network marketing business and train your people. In short order, you are successful. You are on your way to the classic MLM work-from-home dream of money-freedom and time-freedom.

You get REALLY excited!

Your team is anticipating their own meteoric rise. The thought going around is, “We′re going to rule the world!”

But success creates another effect: the opportunity for your network marketing business to branch out in different directions. What could be more natural? You’ve got a system. You’ve already won the game. Now it’s time to conquer new territory. Multiple streams of income, here we come!

Unfortunately, that law of entropy is about to smack you upside the head. The natural state of things is to become disordered. And now you and your associates are speeding up the process by widening your horizons or … put another way … losing your focus.

Even the most successful businesses, once you scratch the surface, have lots of problem areas:

There’s maybe a feeling now that you can coast a bit.
Products are getting dated.
Advertising response falls off and suddenly it costs a lot more money for the same results.
That “gung-ho” customer service attitude doesn’t seem as crucial, now that you are successful.

MLM success breeds confidence, and confidence often breeds ego … which can breed disaster. It happens to people a whole lot smarter - and with a whole lot more money - than you & I.

Look at Xerox

They built a business whose name became synonymous with “copies”. The world was their oyster. In the early 1980s, they branched out into insurance, mutual funds, and investment banking. In 1992, they dropped all these financial services at a loss of nearly a billion dollars. They got out before “conquering new territory″ cost them their entire business. There are hundreds of other examples, but the point is obvious.

The bigger your empire, the more disorder you will suffer. When you see those smiling faces of the top earners up on stage at Convention, realize that they are either now or will soon be experiencing serious disorder. The hoped-for multiple streams of income will soon become multiple streams of outgo. Why? Because disorder is the LAW!

Solution? Focus. Focus. Focus. Resist all temptations to unfocus. In the long run, the most successful MLM team - and people - are the most focused.
