Small businesses are very tightly squeezed for cash flow, but we know that we need to get our messages out there if we want to grow and find new customers. As each of our businesses grow, we know that most of our customers and clients will come as a results of word of mouth advertising. However, we also know that we need to implement a direct mail strategy to help us expand our reach.

Word of mouth advertising is a great way to grow our businesses, mainly because a happy customer will spread the word about your great product or service. They will likely tell a friend. That’s why we must keep on advertising. But how do you do it effectively when you have a limited budget and you have to worry about cash flow, payroll, inventory, rent, etc.?

I want to show you that you need to implement a direct mail strategy and I will share with you what I have learned in the process of developing one for my own companies.

We started out as a small company. We were operating in a few cities only and grew the company to the point where we were operating in 394 cities, 81 markets, 19 states and 3 countries. All this took quite a long time to achieve, so in no way was it a overnight success. Do I Need to Enroll Someone to Make Money

Most people have a misconception about a network marketing business. They think that by getting a friend or anyone into the business is the way to make money. It may look like that on the surface but its much more then introducing friends the opportunity and making money.

Recently, I was chatting with one of my team members and she asked, “Terry, do I need to enroll people into the business in order to make money? And get the new enrollee to do the same in order for him or her to make money?”

I didn’t reply her and thought for a moment. Do network marketing work that way? Back in my mind I knew that it don’t work that way but I was dumbfounded and did not know how to explain to her.

Deep in my heart I knew that a network marketing business is more than just enrolling people and making money. It’s about helping your team to grow their business.

Many people don′t see it that way, they think that just by enrolling more people into the business they will make more money. That’s not the case, very often a high percentage of the people they enrolled will eventually dropout from the business simply because they can′t grow their business.

Like I mentioned earlier, network marketing business is more than just making money, it is about team work, leadership and real life business education that most will never learn from school.

After a moment of thought, I replied her. I told her it’s much more than enrolling people, it is about helping your team to grow their business.

She replied, “Huh?” (I guess she was still puzzled and confused)

I don’t think she get the picture at that moment. I gave her an example.

It doesn’t matter if you can enroll 100 or 200 people in a month, if they are unable to grow their business, they are all going to quit! You need to educate them on how they can grow their business so that they can duplicate what you do.

If you enroll only 10 people and educate them on how they can grow their business. They will learn, apply and grow. A team of 10 will turn into a team of 100, it goes on and they won’t even think about quitting because their team is growing and they are making money. In return, you make money whey your team makes money.

“Oh, so this is the secret to growing my business. I will go do that!”. She began to understand about how network marketing works.

Make Money At Home With This Almost Childishly Simple Idea

If you are itching to make money at home, and want to sell something big ticket — something that will net you a ton of money in one sale — then listen to this:

All you have to do is look through the newspapers, on the Internet, around your town, etc for someone selling something expensive.

Could be their car, could be their boat, could be anything. As long as it is big ticket. Let’s say, for purposes of this example, it’s a yacht. A big $800,000 yacht.

What you do is you find the person’s phone number or email address and you contact them. And you ask them if they would like help selling their yacht.

If they have been trying to sell it for a while and are not having any luck, chances are they will say yes.

And then what you say after that is, “Look, I’m a marketing expert and I like to sell big, expensive things people are having trouble with. Here’s my offer to you: Give me three months to sell your yacht. In that time I get exclusive rights to sell it. And if I can sell it, I want 10% of the gross sales. Is that fair?”

Now obviously, if the guy is having trouble selling his yacht, he will agree to this.

And what you do is you go out and sell it. You use ebay, you use the Internet, you go to boat dealers, you generate leads in the newspaper and you write a simple sales letter and you put it up online, maybe send some out to leads you generate, etc. And you help him sell it.

If you do, you get 10% (in this case, $80,000).

Not bad. Not bad at all. Of course, it doesn’t have to be a boat. You may want to pick something high ticket that you are already familiar with. If you are a car nut, help someone sell their car. If you know about golf, find someone selling an expensive set of golf clubs.

The point here is to be proactive, find something to sell, and then sell it. Use the Internet, the newspaper, trade shows, whatever it takes. You may fail on the first or second attempt, but does it matter if there’s $100,000 on the line?

You can do this while you are working a regular job if you want. All you really need are some basic marketing skills and this can be a true “no brainer” for you.

Starting A Home Based Business; Dealing With The Yo-Yo Effect

The emotional aspects of starting a home business can have you
experiencing high highs and low lows (the yo-yo effect).
In addition to the immediate luxuries of being your own boss,
setting your own working hours, and avoiding a stressful commute,
there are also significant things on the other side of the
ledger…starting and building a home business is not just an
automatic trip to the promised land.

The need for self discipline is important…since you don’t have
a boss and a place to report for work, it is now up to you to
schedule your time and perform productive tasks on your own.

Set actual work hours. Decide what hours you are going to work
each day and stick to it as much as possible. This is one of the
beautiful things about a home based business…you get to make
this choice based upon your own personal situation for that
particular day.

Make “to do” lists for each day. Then, as you complete the items,
check them off the list. You can transfer anything you don′t get
done on a particular day to the next days list and make some

In the early going, one of the most difficult things about

emotional roller coaster that can result from the highs
(successes) and lows (temporary setbacks) you are almost certain
to experience. Once you have done the research and decided on a

that sort of smoothes out the peaks and valleys.

The impact of the highs and lows you will probably experience in
developing your home based business is amplified by the fact
that you are now in business on your own. You are the boss and
get to make all the decisions, but you are also on your own in
dealing with the frustrations that will occur along the way
while you are developing your business.

Choosing the Right Network Marketing Company: 4 surprising steps

I have read articles from “experts” about how to choose a network marketing company, but many of these articles are cleverly disguised attempts by the author to get you to join THEIR company! But their company may not be the right one for you.

I recently spent some time with a good friend of mine that is a retired network marketer that now owns a successful lead brokerage company, and is connected with many different opportunities, and he has a unique, “no axe to grind” point of view about choosing a company based on four criteria, and I think he’s exactly right.

These four things are in order, with one being the most important, then two, etc. I didn’t agree with him at first, but as I listened to his logic and reasoning I came to believe that his four criteria really are correct.

1. Choose the right sponsor.

I know, I know, you were thinking number one would be the right product, or the right company, or something else. But the fact is a newbie that shops for a great network marketing sponsor has a huge advantage over somebody that falls into a network marketing company by chance. Things to look for in a great sponsor:

a. You like each other and have common interests.

b. They are willing to spend time coaching and mentoring you.

c. They are successful. You need to do your homework, because the fact is a lot of people in network marketing misrepresent their income levels. Most companies publish a “Profiles of Success″ or a newsletter that highlights their successful associates. Look for a sponsor that is on the “leader board”.

2. Choose the right marketing system.

This one is critical. If you want to market online, but the company you are looking at wants you to do home parties, you have a problem. Don’t make the mistake of joining a business with traditional marketing techniques if you want to do internet marketing. And don’t join an internet based business if you want to work with your friends, family and neighbors. Make sure the company has a system in place, and that you like the system and want to market your business that way.

3. Choose the right compensation plan.

Let’s face it, if you can’t make some good money in a reasonable amount of time don’t waste time! Some companies look good, sound good, but pay peanuts. And don’t get too caught up in all the bells and whistles and fancy terminology of the latest greatest gimmicky comp plan. Whether it’s a binary, break away, unilevel or anything else doesn’t really mean that much compared to how much of the total revenue is paid to the associates. In other words, a payout of 45% to 65% of gross revenue is typical in network marketing organizations, less than this is below the market, more than that is probably a sign of an unstable organization.

4. Choose the right product.

Yes, this really is number 4. Think about this: How many business school graduates get a degree each year and then look for a really cool product to market? None. They look for the best possible company with a great compensation package, and you should too. Yes, the product is important. Yes, it has to do what it says it does, and shouldn’t make any extraordinary or controversial claims. Yes, you should love it. But it comes in solid last place in terms of choosing your company.

So there you have it, four criteria, in order, for picking the right company. But remember, once you have made your decision, stick with it! Network marketing is not a “get rich quick” or a lottery. It takes persistence, consistency, and “intestinal fortitude” to be a successful network marketer. So stick with it, have fun, and be consistent until you achieve the rock star income network marketing promises!
