You Sell On EBay And You Don’t Have Your Own Website? Are You Crazy?

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Whether you sell items on eBay as a hobby or for a part time income or even if you earn a full time living on eBay, not having a Website of your own to augment your eBay sales is like throwing money down the drain.

Look at it this way.

Lets say that over a 10 day auction, 200 people visit your eBay Sales Page and one of those visitors buys your item.

Then what?

What do your 200 visitors do now? Where do they go?

Well, if your not directing them to another buying opportunity then you have probably lost them for ever.

Now, if you had a Website that promoted products similar to those that you sell on eBay, you would be able to direct them to that site and give them another opportunity to make a purchase.

And it’s so easy to do!

On your eBay Sales Page you place a link to your AboutMe Page.

On your AboutMe Page you add a link to your Website.

eBay wont tolerate you sending visitors to a Website from your Sales Page, but they are perfectly happy for you to direct visitors to your AboutMe Page.

eBays′s policy on the use of the AboutMe Page is that you can direct visitors to a Website outside of eBay as long as that site provides further information on the item you are auctioning or selling.

More information about eBay’s AboutMe Page and Sales Pages can be found at pages.ebay.com/services/index.html.

So, lets go through a brief scenario!

Let’s suppose that your selling “How To” CDs and DVDs on eBay.

You set up your Sales Page for a particular “How To” CD or DVD .

Let’s assume in this example that it’s a CD or DVD that teaches people “How To Grow Award Winning Roses”.

After describing the DVD you would add a line or two to your Sales Page explaining that the visitor can find out more about gardening “How To DVDs″ by visiting your AboutMe Page . Then you would include a link that will take them to your AboutMe Page.

It’s a good idea to include this information at the beginning, middle and end of your Sales Page.

AboutMe Page

Ok. So you’ve set up your AboutMe Page to briefly describe some of your other product titles.

You could include an opt-in form here to help build your mailing list. You would definitely include a link to your Website.

Hopefully your eBay Sales Page has done it’s job and you have sold the “Award Winning Roses” DVD at a good profit.

But what about those visitors that didn′t buy? All 199 of them in this example.

Perhaps that particular DVD wasn’t quite what they were looking for.

Not to worry!

You have offered those visitors an alternative and some will visit your AboutMe Page to see what other products you have,

Some will click on your link and visit your Website.

Some of these visitors to your Website will see products that they are interested in and buy.

Even if this only happens with 2 out of your 200 visitors you will have made more money than you would have done if you didn’t have a Website.

WEBSITES and DOMAIN NAMES

How do I get a Website?

It couldn′t be any simpler to get your own Domain Name and Website than it is nowadays.

WYSIWYG

You could go for a WYSIWYG EDITOR (What You See Is What You Get) site builder where you fill in the “blanks” with your information. See www.ephox.com/default.asp for a WYSIWYG Editor

LEADING EDGE EDITORS

You could use one of the leading edge brand products such as Dreamweaver at www.macromedia.com or MicroSoft FrontPage at www.microsoft.com/frontpage/.

DIY CODING

You could learn to write HTML (Hypertext Mark Up Language)if you wanted to.
A good tutorial can be found at www.htmlgoodies.com/.

A good HTML Editor can be found at evrsoft.com/1stpage2.shtml (this is what I use and it’s free).

OUT SOURCE

You could pay someone else to do it for you and a good place to find someone is www.elance.com/

DOMAIN NAMES

You will want to choose and register your own Domain Name.

A word of warning here. Don’t use a free hosting account for your Website.

You will not be able to use your own domain name and if you want your business to look professional and be taken seriously you must have your own Domain Name.

You can buy a unique Domain Name for as little as $8.00 per year and you can find out if the name you want is available by carrying out a search at most hosting sites for example Namecheap at www.namecheap.com

HOSTING

There are many hosting sites to choose from and a search on your favourite search engine will bring up many.

The most important thing here is that you get what you pay for.

By now, most people are aware of free web space. I’m all for getting something for nothing but a time may come when you choose to promote products or services belonging to you and this is where the need for you to own your own Website becomes paramount.

A Website belonging to you is a must if your business is to be taken seriously.

WHAT WILL IT COST

Website hosting can cost from nothing to upwards of hundreds of dollars but I would suggest that a good average fee would be about $20.00 a month for Hosting.

The monthly fee will largely be dependent on what services and optional extra’s you need, my advice would be to start out with an inexpensive package and upgrade when you need to – but remember, you “get what you pay for”.

If you think that you may need technical help, or you might have questions that you need answering, be sure to pick a hosting company that can provide that level of support.

You will have to decide how important this is to you.

My minimum requirements of a hosting company would be one that backed up it’s servers on a daily basis (that way my precious information is protected) and provided secure server access so that my customer’s details such as credit card details etc were kept confidential.

FREE WEB HOSTING SERVICES

Why pay for hosting when there are so many free Websites?

The main problem with free Website providers is that you will not be able to use a Domain Name belonging to you, and as we have already discovered, your very own Domain Name is a must if you are considering running a business on the Internet.

Other problems are:

1) Unreliability:

Your Website could be off-line for days or even weeks.
Complaining won′t do much good; you’re not paying anything for it after all.

2) Short life span:

Free sites are notorious for closing down after a few months and all of your hard work disappears along with them.

3) Other people advertising:

Your Web Host will earn money from putting other peoples adds on your site, something which you have no control over.

Do you enjoy visiting Websites that bombard you with advertisements that are not relevant to your needs and then send you off to another site just when you think you have finished?

I don’t think so and neither will your visitors.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

We all like something for nothing.

But, in the long run, when it comes to promoting your business via “your” WebPages, you’re better of paying.

My advice, if you’re really serious about owning a Business Website, be prepared to spend about $14.00 per month on hosting.

So.

Don’t let the visitors to your eBay auctions pass you by!

1. Get your Domain Name

2. Decide how your site will be created.

3. Get a Hosting Account.

4. Enjoy all that extra money you will be making.

Is MLM A Top Residual Income Business?

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Multi Level Marketing (MLM) is the same as any other business. You have to work at it for you to earn any real money. Although MLM is a top residual income business opportunity, many people think that they can do the minimal work and enjoys the fruits of their labor. This is one of the main reasons why so many people in their MLM business.

MLM is design such a way that a person can earn residual income months after months. For example, if a person purchases products on a monthly basis, they are able to earn that residual income. This is why a MLM business is so lucrative and many people are interested in it.

As lucrative as it may seems, this top residual income business requires you to put in a lot of effort initially in the beginning. Why? 7 Habits of Outrageously Successful Work At Home Businesses

Monday, October 31st, 2005

You’ve read the ads or seen the infomercials. “Build a six or seven figure income while lounging in your pajamas in your work at home business.” For many people who hear this, their scam detector goes up and they become defensive. Why? Because they have heard countless horror stories of people who have lost their shirt trying to create a business from home.

However, the truth is there are thousands of home based entrepreneurs around the country who have cracked the code, created their place in the world and taking it to the bank. So how did they do it? Why do some people struggle and never ever break even while others create outrageously successful homebased careers?

There are certain habits which I believe are consistent with all of these enterprises. Here are seven habits or traits when implemented work to insure an outrageously profitable venture.

1. Find a hungry target market and look for a product or service to meet their needs. I am surprised how many frustrated entrepreneurs miss this. What often happens is someone gets excited, hit by an entrepreneurial seizure and tries to start a business with a product or service and feels it will sell simply because of their emotional attachment. Keep your mind open when looking at home based business income opportunities. However, make sure someone wants to buy whatever you have to sell before you jump in.

Don’t get me wrong you want to have a passion for what you do. However, if you love 8 track tapes it might be a problem. And depending on your age you might be thinking, “What’s an 8 track tape?” Get my point? However, if you find a group of people who are hungry for what you have is like shooting fish in a bucket. When you find a group that has a problem they want solved they will pay you to do it.

2. Understand nothing happens until a sale is made. I am amazed at how many budding entrepreneurs say they hate sales. This is unfortunate because everything else in a business is an expense. If you don’t have sales coming in the door eventually the doors will close.

Sales and marketing if done correctly is the engine to a company’s success. The key is to add value to the customer at every opportunity. One of the vital things to remember is the first time you obtain a client is the most expensive. But the real wealth is built when you have the opportunity to sell to a customer over and over again. Some companies even take a loss to get the customer in the pipeline because they realize the real money is on the back end and the true profit is in the lifetime value of the customer.

3. Develop a strong team. One of the traits that will accelerate the success of any business is the leverage generated by the help of others.

Robert Kiyosaki Author of Rich Dad Poor Dad says, “Business and investing are team sports.” The average investor or small-business person loses financially because they do not have a team. Instead of a team they act as individuals who are trampled by very smart teams.”

While you are building a home based business you don’t want to do it alone. There are only 24 hours a day and you can’t do everything. You want to look for opportunities to outsource all non revenue generating activities. Successful proprietors don’t waste a lot of time on filing and organizing.

4. Focus on the business not just working in the business. What separates you from being able to create a company that provides you with great income and lifestyle versus one that you are chained to the doors is a matter of focus. Successful entrepreneurs focus on the big picture.

I’m saddened when people say, “No one can do what I do.” This might be true however it presents a great challenge. You are now a slave to your business. The business no longer serves you. The goal must be to take “you” out of as much of your business as possible.

Look for ways to remove you, automate and systemize the process. One of the ways to do this is to use the leverage of technology. You might want to use a website that allows people to order your product or service 24/7. Or you might write a book which can be sold while you are sleep. Get the picture.

5. A highly successful home based business has a central theme or mission. Many home based businesses never reach success because they are trying to do too many things at the same time. You might be saying, “But I want to create multiple streams of income.”

The problem with multiple streams of income can be a nightmare if approached incorrectly. New entrepreneurs often make the mistake of trying to create several profit centers from non aligned businesses. For example, you will find people who try to start real estate, network marketing and internet marketing all at the same time.

The reason you will almost never have success with this strategy is you can not build momentum. Each business has a totally different business model and you can’t leverage the energy of one to another.

However, the successful home based entrepreneur understands the law of momentum. For example, if you were an author one of your products would be the book. However, you could spin that product into an empire by leveraging it into an e-book, tape set, work-book, seminar, boot camp and coaching program.

Do you see the power of having one central product or theme and how you can leap frog to success? You want to be focused and committed to a central theme. Once you have success you can add another stream of income. This trait is one of hidden keys to success.

6. Resilient and quick to adapt to change. This is one of the distinct advantage solo-entrepreneurs have over large companies. Often time’s large corporations invest thousands of dollars in a project and even when they know it’s not working they are slow to change. In Corporate America this may not kill a business because one mistake is just a cog in the wheel.

However, in small business your ability to change on a dime allows you test things and when things work you do it with massive all out action. And when something is not what working you simply let it go, test something else and move forward.

7. Commit to continual education. Now, I am not talking about another degree or certificate. There are plenty of people with plaques on their walls that aren’t able to create the income and lifestyle they want. However, I love the quote by one of the leading experts in self-development. Jim Rohn says, “Formal education will make you a living; self education will make you a fortune.”

Personal development and specialized knowledge often is the difference between a fledgling operation and one that has an outrageously bottom line. Why? Because successful people know that the best investment they can make is in self.

Make sure that you are always staying ahead of the curve and immerse yourself in your area of expertise. You can do this by attending seminars, tele-classes, boot camps or participating in coaching programs.

Do you want to build wealth from home? Cut your learning curve by modeling one or all of these traits from successful home based businesses. You will find when you model those who have had success you will too if you embody the same traits. Start today and you will be on your way to outrageous success.

Making The Most of MLM Opportunities

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

If you′ve ever desired to own your own business, you may well have been attracted by MLM, or multi level marketing. Multi level marketing can offer a good way to earn an income by way of hard work as an independent contractor exempt from the overheads and management skills essential to run an completely independent business. At any rate, MLM has got a bad rap due to the large amount of crooked schemes based on this concept. How can you be confident that the MLM schema you are looking at is secure and lawful? How can you select the suitable MLM scheme for you?

The principal item you have to be informed of regarding multi level marketing is that a authentic MLM opportinity should offer income chiefly owing to sales. MLM companies act as warehousers and distributors and co-ordinate people such as you who work as franchisers. MLM franchisers focus on producing sales, at which time they are supported by the main MLM company. You have to be extremely watchful of any MLM company which offers compensation based predominantly on how many other people you can influence to join it.

You should also be dubious of any MLM company which asks you for money upfront, even if the MLM company claims that this money is to pay for MLM training, verification or start-up gear. Some such companies are not valid MLM companies but, more or less, pyramid schemes, which may well leave you hard up. Participating in counterfeit MLM schemes such as these could also get you in trouble with the law. When you work for a legitimate multi level marketing company, the rewards you receive will be a direct outcome of sales which you have made to patrons.

Who stands to profit from multi level marketing? Even if the amount of fraudsters may make it look daunting, selecting a acceptable MLM schema can put you in a very agreeable monetary posture. MLM schemes can purvey a tremendous way to start up in business for the first time, as overheads are low and it is not normally essential to possess a lot of business skills. You may be able to secure skills while working as part of multi level marketing initiative which you can then shift to different business interests.

Regardless, an MLM company will not do the labour for you. You will only earn revenues in proportion to the energy you put in. Several MLM companies offer bonuses to especially zealous working employees. MLM schemes are tremendous for highly motivated, steadfast people who wish to make the best of their sales skills. With MLM, you do not need to be concerned with the logistics of managing goods or services; you can just get out there and do what you are good at. Every business venture carries various risks, and many can be avoided by using common sense and taking time to think over each individual arrangement. So do not be anxious to give MLM a try. It could be the precise solution for you.

The Future Of Work At Home Jobs

Work at Home Scams are Everywhere, “The Future Of Work At Home Jobs”

If you are interested in working from home but haven’t found anything profitable out there, you are in luck. If you are tired of throwing away your hard earned money on promises that turn out to be work at home scams, we have a solution. The work at home scam industry has been very profitable for certain types of entrepreneurs. By law a work at home scam is selling a program that either doesn’t exist or a business that doesn’t sell an actual product or service. In reality, a work at home scam is very different.

A legal work at home scam is paying for a useless packet of information based on a marketing technique like a letter or a website. Your cash is exchanged for a program that is nearly impossible to find any practical application for, although you were promised the world. I use the words legal work at home scam because the individuals promising the world and selling the information are well aware that most people will find the information they are providing to be useless and unattainable. Their goal is not to provide you with valuable information to help you achieve your work at home dreams, rather they are looking to make a sale and pocket the profits and what you do doesn’t concern them. “The Future Of Work At Home Jobs”

Telecommuting has nearly tripled in popularity over the last five to ten years. The home based business industry has become one of the most lucrative businesses available, and if you are one of the fortunate few, you can not only enjoy the freedom of working at home but typically become more profitable doing it than any regular job can allow.

The next generation jobs, “The Future Of Work At Home Jobs”

Jobs are a basic of life. We all know from the time we are very young that we are expected to grow up and go get a job someday. Most of us grew up in the generation that worked for the same company from the time they were young until they retired. This phenomenon is really quite unheard of today. Companies are quick to outsource, downsize, and cut the closest penny anywhere they can. While many employees have loyalty to their employer, the same company will have no loyalty to an employee.

“The Future Of Work At Home Jobs” world over employers are quick to cut the faithful employee if he or she shows signs of failing health or can simply be replaced by someone younger who will willingly work for less money. The shifting trend in todays business has led to more people seeking work at home positions than ever before. Telecommuting provides flexibility and comes with silent benefits that are often worth the risk.

People that telecommute are not required to use their cars daily, so not only do they save in fuel consumption, but the wear and tear of commuting to work disappears and maintenance costs plummet and the vehicles last longer.

People land work at home positions typically find that they experience more job satisfaction. People who need to commute to work find they get little recognition for the quality of the job they perform and rarely report receiving a compliment but find themselves critically and harshly condemned for taking a day off. Work a day individuals are far from in control of their income and can not determine for themselves when and how often they are worthy of a raise. This the “The Future Of Work At Home Jobs”

People who are able to telecommute for a specific company generally do not have control of their income. People who find telecommuting positions that are of a freelance nature have more control over their income. They are able to determine if they want to work harder in order to bring in more money and negotiate better rates for more difficult projects. Freelance telecommuting positions are not all that difficult to come by if you have an in demand and unique skill.

Freelance Telecommuting Positions, “The Future Of Work At Home Jobs”

Freelance telecommuting positions are not a typical form of employment. Freelance telecommuting positions are based on the idea of piece meal income. You may find yourself with several projects one week and only one or two the following week. The income available From a week to week basis in a freelance telecommuting position is bound to vary greatly. People who need a steady, predictable income in order to feel secure typically do not so well in a freelance telecommuting position.

One of the most popular freelance telecommuting positions is graphic design. Whether your specialty is web based design or business design, graphic designers are able to break out on their own and even if they have marginal talent, they can land enough work to produce a reasonable income to pay the bills. A really good graphic designer has unlimited income potential.

Companies are willing to pay often astronomical amounts of money for quality web based graphic design. Web based graphic design is becoming more of a necessity in modern business. Web based graphic design can so severely influence a company’s web success or failure that companies will ultimately leave a large budget for their web based graphic design.

“The Future Of Work At Home Jobs” Web based graphic design is a wide open market for freelance telecommuting positions. With the power of the internet, a designer can ultimately reach clientele across oceans and continents. Once upon a time it was necessary for the freelance telecommuting graphic designer to rent office space and meet regularly with clients. In modern business, it is now possible for a web based graphic designer to send a potential client their samples and quotes from anywhere in the world, complete the work, and then receive remuneration from their client without ever meeting them.

Sales has become a growing freelance telecommunications position, which many people find surprising. Freelance telecommunication position that hire salespeople pay on a commission only structure. While many brick and mortar sales companies hire on a commission only basis, there are many that will include either a salary or draw with their commission structure so their employees have a chance to learn the business well. The sales industry is now acknowledging the benefits of hiring freelance telecommuters. While the company saves money by refusing a salary to their telecommuters, they also save in the costs of health insurance, office space and equipment.

Anyone willing to put in the effort can have a lucrative telecommuting position if they choose sales. On the positive end of finding a telecommuting position in sales, there are remarkably few work at home scams that deal with sales positions. Almost any company hiring telecommuters for a work at home sales position is going to be legitimate. Most work at home scams operate on the principle of selling information and being completely finished with the individual that bought the product. A person being hired for a sales position never needs to produce any form of payment before starting work for the company. Work at home scams target individuals wanting to start their own web based business but have no product, skill, or experience in we marketing.

Basic Telecommuting Issues “The Future Of Work At Home Jobs”

Freelance telecommuting can be a wonderful lifestyle to experience for those who do not require much structure in order to be productive. There is wonderful trade off of time freedom as long as too much time freedom doesn’t become irresponsibility. It can be an intricate tightrope to walk, but most freelance telecommuters accomplish this goal without too much adjustment within their first four to six weeks.

Before accepting any type of freelance telecommuting position it’s always a good idea to make sure there’s a little extra cash set aside before leaving a steady paycheck, even after there is enough work lined up to keep a person busy for weeks. Online payment systems are not instantaneous and it can actually take up to two weeks before the money paid to an individual for work received actually makes into the freelancer’s bank account.

Self discipline combined with flexibility is an absolute must for any freelance telecommuter. There will be distractions no matter how well a freelancer sets up their private work space. Very few individuals who work outside the home can make the mental leap the just because a freelancer is home doesn’t mean that they have all the time in the world to do whatever they want. If a freelancer does not set good boundaries as well as learn to work outside of a set of scheduled hours, they may very well find themselves overwhelmed with day time favors, inadequate work space, and friends who want to call seven times a day just to chat. This can also happen with a spouse.

Name Squeeze Your Way to Big Profits

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

If you want to grow your prospect list to huge numbers quickly and easily, you need to be using the name squeeze technique.

There is traffic and then there is targeted traffic. Anybody can get lots of hits to their site. The trick is to separate the browsers from those that are actually interested in your product, service, or opportunity. An easy way to do this is to build a teaser page. This is a page with basic info about your product, service, or opportunity. It gives just enough info to make visitors want to know more.

How do they find out more? Good question!

You place a form on your teaser page that asks visitors to provide their name, email, phone number(s), or whatever info you want to know about them. When the visitor fills out a form they are directed to your main site, but now you have all of their info. This info can be immediately added to auto responders to continue to drip information on the visitor via email. You can ask for phone numbers and follow up with each visitor who requests info. Calling visitors back, in my opinion, is very key. It doesn’t have to be a sales call, but if you call to introduce yourself and let the visitor know that there is an actual person behind the site, it will go a long way to getting them buying into your products, services, or opportunity. You can collect their mailing address and send them printed material as well. Bottom line, is that you now not only have visitors, but you have leads. Targeted leads with email, phone, address, etc. that you can contact any way you like.

A better name for a teaser page, is a capture page. This is because it allows you to capture all of your targeted traffic info so you can follow up with them however you like.

The more quickly you follow up with your new lead the better. If you can catch them while they are still browsing your site, they will not only be amazed, but you increase your chances at turning this high qualified lead into an actual sale.

This name squeeze technique is an easy, inexpensive way to start collecting live, targeted leads that you can add to your contact list. Sales, whether it be a product, service, or opportunity is all about numbers. The more numbers you have in your contact list, the more money you will make in the long run. If those in your list are also highly targeted as the name squeeze technique helps them to be… your income will skyrocket!

Work From Home - Home Office Telephone Tips

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

If you work from home, implementing a few home office telephone tips and strategies will help you to maintain a professional image for your home based business and keep your business and personal time separate.

Most people who work from home will tell you that professional telephone issues fall into two main categories. The first issue is in making sure home business calls always sound professional. Somehow it seems that when you are working from home, the important call you’ve been waiting on from a crucial client always happens when your kids are crying or your dog is barking. That kind of background chaos doesn’t do much for your professional image.

Then second home office telephone issue revolves around keeping business and personal time separate. Anyone who works from home will tell you that putting work completely aside and taking some personal time can be a big challenge.

If you work from home, you know what I mean. You are trying to relax and enjoy some personal time when a business call comes in. Even if you manage to gather the self control needed to let the call go to voice mail, sooner or later your curiosity will force you to yield to the little blinking light on your phone and you will take the message. Suddenly, before you’ve even realized it, you find yourself buried in your work again.

Maintain a Professional Image for Your Home Business

There are plenty of telephone tips and strategies that people who work from home can use to manage telephone professionalism.

1. Teach other members of the household to completely avoid answering the phone during typical business hours to maintain a professional image from your home office.

2. Use call display, and instruct family members to answer only when they recognize the phone number.

3. Use a pre-established hand signal, or as my former team leader called it, a “look of death” which communicates to others that you are on a business call and need others to be quiet.

4. Establish a dedicated business telephone number. You will always know when the call is business related, so you can answer in a professional way. Also you can ensure that no one else in the household answers when a call comes in on your business phone number.

More on establishing a business phone number…

Based on my experience, when you work from home and are expected to maintain a certain level of professionalism on business calls, establishing a dedicated business phone number is crucial. Depending on the options you choose, your dedicated business phone number doesn’t have to be very expensive.

You can establish a separate phone number for your home business in a couple of ways.

Establish a Second Phone Number on an Existing Phone Line

If you work from home but don’t get a lot of business calls, you may choose to simply set up a second phone number on your existing telephone line. This approach is a simple and inexpensive way to immediately establish professionalism for your business when you work from home.

When a customer calls this number, it will ring on your personal phone(s), but the ring will sound different than it does when your personal phone number is called. You can train family members to avoid answering the phone when they hear the “business ring.” Also, you will know instantly when an incoming call is business related, and you can avoid answering if there is some kind of loud chaos happening at your house.

Establish a Second Phone Line for Business Calls

Another option for establishing a dedicated business phone number for your home business is installing a completely separate phone line in your home. You will then use that separate line use for business purposes only.

Having a separate phone line is typically the more expensive of the two options. You will likely pay an installation charge and higher monthly fees than you would pay for a separate phone number on an existing line. However, a separate phone line has the advantage of ringing only on your business telephone and not on your personal telephones. This approach allows you to dedicate a specific telephone for business use only.

Asking others in your household to avoid answering your business phone is a fairly simple, uncomplicated request. The other advantage of this option is that it can really help you to address the second issue around taking business phone calls when you work at home: separating work and personal time.

Your personal phone line will not ring with business calls. The only phone that will ring will be the one in your office, so you will be limited to answering business calls in your dedicated work space.

This strategy has worked well for me. In my previous line of work, many of my phone calls were stressful. An incoming phone call was rarely good news and almost always meant a problem was brewing. Establishing a separate business phone line in my home office was crucial to preserving my personal time.

I turned the volume of the ring down on my business phone so it could only be heard in my office. That way, I was never tempted to deal with or even check incoming calls outside of office hours. It made a huge difference in my ability to manage the stresses and demands of a highly responsible job.

Working from home can be extremely rewarding, but learning to work from home effectively takes a little thought and planning. Implement a few of these simple strategies and you will be on your way to establishing a professional image for your home based business.

Tips on Staying Sane While Working at Home

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

Okay, I know you hate your job. They give you no respect. No benefits, no motivation, you know that if you come back from lunch ten minutes late, they have already given away your login i.d. and someone else is already sitting at your desk. You’re sick and tired of it and if you have to hear your boss′ mouth one more time…

So you say that’s it I am going to work out of my home and that’s that. It will be easier, I′ll have more time with the kids and you and your spouse no longer have to communicate with cell phones and pagers just to find each other.

Oh, if only it could be that easy.

Let me say this first because I will have to repeat this again and again.

If your home life was screwed up before, working at home isn’t going to make it any better.

Yes, I said it.

If your marriage was in trouble before, you better fix what was broken because starting a business at home starts out with a big adjustment period.

If your kids were unruly before, and made a lot of noise (depending on their age), you better handle that now because it will get worse once they realize that you have work to do on a deadline that needs your attention.

Now I am not going to get into any parenting tips or marriage tips.

Kids will be kids and married life always has its ups and downs. But get a reality check first.

QUICK TIPS THAT WILL SAVE YOU A LIFETIME OF HEADACHES

You have to put yourself on a schedule, and coordinate this with your families’ schedule so you will know when id the best time to work and the best time for family activities

Sometimes, it’s best to work in the middle of the night.

If you have children under the age of one years old, you are up in the middle of the night anyway begging them to go to sleep so you might as well get an hour or two while you’re up.

For me I work right after I put the kids on the school bus, and straight through until they get home, and one hour before dinner time.

Set aside a spot just for your business. If you don’t have an extra room, then make a section just for your business and nothing else. So when you are looking for your notes, it’s not in the toy box or the tool shed.

Learn to cook fast meals. Cook your food ahead of time, if possible.
Cook while you download.
Wash clothes while you upload.
Fold clothes while you are editing your site.
Scan your email while cleaning.
Designate time just for your kids and spouse.
Stop surfing and spend some time with them.

If it’s not relevant to your business, close that browser.

If your email isn’t working, or your server is down, relax because knowing your ISP, it won’t work until tomorrow anyway.

How many times do you say ‘I’m just going to check my email’ and some offer pops up or some new promotion arrives in your inbox. Next thing you know you’re looking at the site and you get completely side tracked. An hour has passed, the food is burning, the kids are outside looking for new parents and your spouse, hey where did he/she go? Get the picture..

So before you plan on mooning the boss and telling all your co-workers where they can shove it, think about it before you pick up your last paycheck. Remember:

If your home life was screwed up before, working at home isn’t going to make it any better.

This is just a brief, humorous overview of the work involved in working at home. you have to have some humor even in business or you will burn out quick!!
