So why do people fail, in record numbers in such a system? They fail because, they pick and choose which parts to follow and which parts not to follow.

A system will not work if you do not follow ALL of the steps. It’s like following the directions on a map. If you turn left when you are suppose to turn right, you may eventually get to your final destination, but it may take you much longer. You may even end up lost in the wilderness. And if you have a team of people following you, you may lead them astray in to that same wilderness.

So, what are the 4 key mistakes most people make who fail in this business?

1. They talk too much. Most of you in your excitement about your new business will try and go out and explain it to everyone you know, expecting them to be as enthusiastic as you are. This is a mistake! Although most people don’t admit it, they make decisions on an emotional basis and THEN use logic to support their decision.

You are excited about your business because you are emotionally invested in it. After you got emotionally invested then your brain came up with the logical reasons why you could do this business. Your friends and family work the same way. Follow the system that is in place weather it’s a video presentation or sizzle or conference call. These have been designed to push the emotional buttons of your prospects FIRST, then the logical ones.
Follow your scripts! Before adding words check with your up-line. It is amazing how adding just 2 or 3 extra words can make or brake your business. Also you want to keep the process as simple as possible. Remember this business is about duplicating success. Always KISS your business (Keep It Simple, Silly). That way your downline will be able to duplicate your success.

2. They fail to do something everyday. Your business, my business, almost any business is built on momentum. It is always harder to get it started, but once it gets started, it is easier to maintain. But once you stop, you have to start the hard process of getting started again. Think about that diet or workout you may have started at once upon a time. I’m sure you decided that I am going to get in shape or lose weight. You may have started off great, but then… you miss that one work out or you cheat that one day, thinking “Its just one day!” But that one day makes it easier to skip another day. Then it becomes a week… Now you have to start all over again.

Make doing something everyday a habit. They say it takes a habit 21 days to develop. Prospect consistently for 21 days. It will seem hard at first, but in 21 days, it will be almost second nature. You may not see the benefits today, but with 30-90 days of consistent action, you will definitely notice some results.

3. They Don’t Treat Their Business Like A Business. You have to invest in your business. In network marketing the asset that you have to invest the most is your time. We are all given 86,400 seconds in each day to invest. What we don’t use, we lose. We can not save any on the seconds that we do not use. Therefore, we do not have any “spare” time. It is either used or lost forever. In other words you can work your business full time or part time, but not in your spare time. Plan the hours that your business will be open and work during those hours. It could be 7 hours a week or 70 hours a week. Just plan out that time and use it effectively. Spend 80% of your working time prospecting. The other 20% should be used training your downline and self development. Now you can use the hours outside of your work time to do extra prospecting, team building or self development, but think of this as overtime, which will pay off in the future.

4. They Quit Too Soon. Less Brown wrote a book, “Its Not Over Until You Win” I truly believe that is one of the biggest problems with people in this industry. People give up too soon. You wouldn’t quit your job if they didn’t make you a national director or vice-president in 3 months of (inconsistent at best) part-time work. So why should you expect it here. However, statistically it takes more than 10 years of grueling dedicated hours to become senior management in the corporate world. In the network marketing field, over 90% of the people who stay around for more than 3 years reach a senior sales level, working part time. What sounds like a better deal to you? Stay with it. Don’t quit. If you do, the clock will start all over again. Remember, its not over until you win!

Nine out of 10 people fail in this industry because they are not willing to work hard and are looking for easy money. You don′t have to be one of the failures. The road to network marketing success is filled with obstacles. It is your decision if you are going to use them as stumbling block or stepping stones. Let me tell you a story about a woman who got the bright idea for starting an online home-based business. She saw a commercial on the television about making millions with an online business and all the people were telling their story and she went nuts! The reason is that no matter what kind of internet business you plan on starting, if you have the determination and understand that nothing is going to happen overnight and you are going to have to make an investment to get it going, then I suggested to her the same thing I suggest to you: Since you know you are going to have to spend some money to succeed, then why not put all your eggs in one basket? Research and find a company or program that offers you a product that will solve your problems, not a service. Just getting a service doesn′t guarantee that you will get anyone else to sign up and you will have to spend money on advertising anyway, so why not advertise a program with a product where you know for a fact that once it sells, you make money.

Here is one thing that most others will not tell you, every time you sign up for a program within a program, the person that signed you up and the guru is making nice pocket change from that. They sell you the story that “they want you to succeed” when the truth is folks, they really can care less because whether you succeed or not, there are hundreds more just like you signing up for all those accounts while they sit back and collect a paycheck. Of course they “want you to succeed, because that’s more that you make for them!” Don’t ever be fooled by a “Free Program/Free to Join” because it really is not free at all.

Again, you know you will be spending a little to make a lot, so just make sure you find one that has 1 step, a valuable product to offer solutions to a problem, and does not require you to make a bunch of dead end phone calls (they don′t work well at all!). In this case, I might consider promoting niche private labels rights to my subscribers if I’m teaching niche marketing. Or maybe, software to locate niche markets from the internet. Basically, I’ll consider promoting products that are complimentary, NOT COMPETING.

Seek joint venture partners that have complimenting products to yours.

Like, if you′re selling a blogging software, your ideal joint venture partners would be people who sell courses on how to make money online from blogging.

Make sense?

In this case, I would be able to sell some blogging software as a JV Partner but you’ll definitely get better result by contacting a more targeted partner. You see, the efforts you have to put in are the same… so why not approach a more qualified partner like someone who is in the “How to blog” niche?

You still want to approach as many joint venture partners as possible, but start with the more targeted potential partners first because it′ll be more effective.

Let me give you another example so that you can relate. If your ebook title is “77 Ways To Potting Train Your Dog”, your suitable and quality Joint Venture Partner would be the author of “How To Train Your Dog To Sit And Fetch″ because his customer would be interested in your ebook.

Of course, this concept will NOT be applicable if there are other influences in getting the joint venture to agree to the promotion. Other influences can be relationship, high affiliate commission, 2-way JV swap, unique product, additional benefits, free product access, etc.

Finding complimentary product is just one of the important keys of selecting a Joint Venture Partner successfully.

When other influences are in the picture, a joint venture might consider promoting a competing product of his. That’s normal and … logical.

So, are you seeking quality joint venture partners?

Another tip about seeking joint ventures is, start small if you’re just starting out. Don’t approach the ‘big boys’ of your niche market when you’re starting out no matter how tempting it is. Get the ball rolling first because if you spoil your first impression when you approach them, you’re risking to lose doing business with them forever. These techniques are needed to promote, run and maintain a successful home business. You′ll get some great ideas. Here are some ideas I have used that helped me make money from home either directly or indirectly:

1. Keep an expense folder. A simple manila file folder near your work area will do. Any time you come home with a receipt or print off an online receipt pertaining to a business expense, just put that in your “Business Expenses″ folder. You don’t really need to do anything with it at the moment or even this month. I just keep all my receipts in there so that everything is handy when tax time comes around. It’s usually pretty easy to sort and categorize all the items in this folder. You save a lot of time searching all over the house for all your business receipts.

2. Mileage book - Take a small notebook with enough space in it to write the date, beginning mileage, ending mileage and reason for the trip. Then when you get in the car to go somewhere and you know you be doing something business related, you can enter that information. Again, this is a huge time save at tax time. You can just enter the beginning and ending mileages on a spreadsheet and let it do the calculating for you. Then you sum the total of business miles for that year and enter it on the proper line on your tax forms.

3. Idea book - This can be any type of notebook. I prefer a spiral 8 1/2″ x 11″ notebook. You can have dividers in it for certain subjects if you like. If you write articles you can write an article heading on a page and then add content to it as you think of it. Any time an idea comes into your head you can write it in your idea book. This helps keep your head clear, yet makes sure that you’re getting your ideas on paper to make use of at a later time. This helps keep you organized because you can put headings on pages like “Headlines for Ads”, “Business Building Activities”, “Notes from Seminars”, “Affiliate Programs I Want to Check Out″, “People I want to Tell About my Business”, and any other ideas you can come up with for page headings. Then when you get an idea related to one of these topics you can write it down.

4. Sacred Phone and Computer Time - assuming you need the phone or computer to run your business. If you need some other activity, you can apply that here too. If you have limited time to build a business, you will need to use your time wisely. If you only have 1 hour per day to devote to your business, then assign one half hour per day to each of these activites. It’s best to assign the same time each day if possible. You might choose 8:00-8:30pm for phone time and 10:30-11:00pm for computer time. If you have more time than that, you can adjust accordingly.

5. Mini List System - I love making lists. I just hate how the list looks when I’m working my way through it. So what I do now is take 2″x2″ sheets of paper. One item on my to-do list goes on that little piece of paper. Then I take what I call sticky tack or any type of moldable clay that you would use to hang posters. You place a small amount of this on the back of that small piece of paper and stick it around the edge of your computer screen, on your refrigerator, on your bathroom mirror. Just put them where you work most of the time or where you will see them most often. Then as you complete that task you can throw that little piece of paper away. This eliminates the messy to-do list and provides a great sense of relief when you can take that little piece of paper and throw it away knowing that task is done. I tried using post it notes but found that they did not stick well enough over time to be useful for this system.

Of course you will not use the same approach in sponsoring a senior high school graduate as you will in sponsoring a physician. Although you use the same materials and skills in sponsoring them.

What materials do you really need to master to be able to perform well in sponsoring? There are two kinds of materials that you have to master to perform well in sponsoring activities, namely: 1. Materials about your MLM company’s profile and the system of compensation plan and all things related to this, 2. Materials about the products being marketed by the company and all things related them. So, it is strongly recommended that when you sign up with any MLM company, you have to immediately know, at least general knowledge about this company’s profile, its compensation plan, and the products being marketed. If you are not interested in finding out about all this, then you are not joining the company to succeed but to please your sponsor and/or upline temporarily. You will go nowhere beyond being registered as a member. This type of member possibly makes up the highest percentage of all MLM members who will eventually say, “I am not cut out to be an MLM millionaire.”

- Learning to Handle Rejection Wisely

It is understandable and human nature not to readily accept refusal or rejection. Most people will not take “No” for an answer. Basically, nobody wants to be rejected. But it is also the law of nature that there is a “No” to balance a “Yes”, there is a “Light” to balance a “Dark”, and there is a “Good” to balance is a “Bad”. So, considering this law of nature, you must not kill yourself just because you are rejected three times today. Some other people may have been rejected ten times today but remain calm because they know tomorrow they may get 10 acceptances. That is life. To these optimistic people, life is like a turning wheel. You will never be on top all the time. And God is of supreme justice. Succeeding is the right of everyone who struggles for it. It is a matter of time and persistence.

-Duplicating Leaders

Why do people build a network? There must be a reason why a network is so highly regarded by the people who know the value a network. It takes time and energy to build a huge network. Building a network is not a one man’s work. You will never have a huge network if you work alone. It is almost impossible to build a network alone. The more people you have to build a network the easier and faster you can establish a huge network. Duplicating is creating more and more people whose expertise, skills, attitude and action are similar to those of their competent leader in relation to their business development. If one able leader can build a huge castle, a lot more can be expected from more competent leaders.

-Managing Downlines

The longevity of your inflow of residual and passive income lies on your success in managing your downlines. Your downlines are your asset, so treat them as such (See my article entitled “Don’t Let Your Downlines Down” ). Your downline organization is a vital infrastructure of your MLM business. Your business is nothing without your downlines. If you fail in understanding the importance of your downlines, just imagine yourself standing on a roof of a tall building, then suddenly comes a big earthquake shaking and breaking the foundation and the body of the building on which you are standing. What is the chance of your staying alive?

Entertaining and Rewarding Yourself

Are you tired of doing your MLM routines, being rejected, being frustrated because of failure in achieving your own target, and in certain cases being left behind by the people whom you used to introduce to the business. Again, it is a fact of life that at times you have to accept the reality of life. Learn how to appreciate what you have got in your hands, and what God has granted to you so far. You may have achieved more than what your colleagues have, but you do not realize it or to arrogant to say “Thanks!” to the Creator of this universe.

Try to learn from other people who have succeeded. Do not just see how rich they are now, but learn the strategies which they may have shared with million people through their biographies. Did they suddenly succeed out of the blue. You may not realize that you have found the right path to achieve your long time goals. Do not let others steal your dreams or divert your direction. Entertain yourself when you achieve some improvement in you MLM career. Reward yourself for each achievement however small it may be. Thank “God” for all blessing and mercy granted to you, then you will be guided safely to your destination.

Time management or should I say, “Life” management, is a very critical piece in every persons life that desires to leave a legacy in this world. Life is no longer as simple as it used to be and we all thought that as new technology is introduced, it would make everything easier, but unfortunately it makes everyone more demanding.

There are a few key steps to achieving balance in your life, and I believe that if applied correctly, it will dramatically improve your lifestyle.

#1. Keep a journal for one week that clearly outlines where all your time is being spent. This will help you see where all your time is being invested. This may sound foolish, but the average person spends about 72 hours watching television over the course of a week. We all enjoy good entertainment, but some of that time could be spent building relationships or making a few extra bucks.

#2. Review the journal and analyze where the time is being spent. This will help you to see who or what is getting the most attention and where adjustments may need to be made.

#3. List your priorities. These vary from person to person, but we all have them. This is a step that cannot be skipped because here is where you list your passions. Mine are as follows: God, Family, Ministry, Work, Hobbies and everything else falls below that.

#4. Place two columns beside the priority list. The first column is the percentage of time that your journal says you spent in each area. The second column is the desired percentage that you want to reach in that area. This is where is begins to be fun because you have reached a point in which your taking action to improve your life based on your priorities.

#5. Set goals. For each of your priorities set a one year goal that you would like to attain outlining the percentage of daily or weekly time you would like to commit to it. Then set a six month goal after that which will act as a key milestone. Next, list a 3 month, 1 month, 1 week and tomorrows goals after that. This will help in you in taking a little action each day towards that one year goal.

#6. Stick to your plan. Procrastination is probably the number one reason for failure. Nobody wants to fail and I believe that each person in this world has the potential to be successful at whatever they set their heart to do. Perseverance is the ability to pick yourself up after failure and continue moving forward towards your goals.
