It was the day that changed course of my life.

As we walked together on that empty road he asked me, “When are you starting with your venture?”

He was a close friend. I had revealed him often how I would love to start my own online business from home and work towards financial independence.

He knew nothing about internet business. But he always heard me with attention and encouragement.

“Quite a time has passed since you first mentioned.” He smiled as I remembered.

“Next year. Something has come up. I do not think I will be able to do this year.” I replied.

What he said was never expected, “If you do not have time this year and think you will have next year, you will never have the time. Things are not going to change much tomorrow than they are today. If you want to do it then do it now.

As he parted after a long discussion he gave the final blow, “There will be no perfect time any day. If you postpone, it will fizzle out.”

Often I receive emails of people who ask when they should start their business. I have passed through same kind of phase. I will repeat the advice my friend gave me.

“NOW.”

Yes! Now is the right time for anything.

When we dream about a venture, knowingly or subconsciously we attach a state of perfection with that dream. It is a human habit. When mind dreams it does with perfection.

But reality is different. You might already have prior engagements that won’t leave you with perfect state of conditions to pursue your dreams. Shall you wait so that things become better? Well! The conditions did not improve in my case and as I see now they never become perfect.

A dream has to pass through congested reality before it could be realized.
Start now. The chaos which you face today would be present tomorrow also. These are the most frequent questions that trouble the mind of a potential starter.

# Where do I get extra time required?

Squeeze it. You do not need much of a time to work on the net. In case of business on the net, it is pretty manageable with small editing of your time management.

# What if I do not have resources?

Well! You need to search for what you can do. Cut down dispensable expenses like movies or eating out. Borrow if you can. If you are sincere enough you will find a way.

# I do not have a perfect plan.

Okay. Start with imperfect one that you have formulated. You can modify it along the way if you need. Start now. There is plenty to learn in the way. You cannot learn all before you start. And read this carefully. Nobody starts with perfect plan. Things shape up as you walk the path.

Action is what separates achievers from dreamers.

It is very easy to dream. There is no cost involved, no hindrance of any kind to stop the mind. Dreaming is the first step towards any endeavor. But dream must be followed by action to realize that dream.

If it is not followed by action a dream has got no meaning. World is full of wasted ideas and talents. Don’t let that happen to you.

Can you believe it’s August already? The holidays will be here before we know it. Now is a perfect time to reflect on your business and see if it is all that it can be. We developed new themes for them, “Hey, hey, the VA Gang’s all here,” and VANF, the forum for successful and aspiring virtual assistants. This made a considerable difference in the forum as it gave it a more defined purpose. The colors, the professionalism of the wording, everything about it would convince a client to work with them. Look to your site and spend the time to make it something that you can be proud of. Too often we throw together a website, just to have it done. Remember this can often be a client’s first impression of you. Is it selling you well?

Get your site listed. Research! Research! Research! What does it take to get to the top of Google where the clients will find your site. Are you on Yahoo Directories and different sources that businesses can see you? Spend an hour or so a day just to do this and see what a difference it can make in your business.

Go looking for clients. If you specialize in real estate, then find out where you can find agents. Where are they online? That’s where you should be too.

Jumpstarting your business can be exciting and rewarding. Once you start seeing the results in your Paypal account and your business account starts getting bigger, you start doing this more often and finding ways to continue to do so. You come together and you talk about your experiences with the particular product, you express your ideas on how to improve it and they hand you a cheque, as you walk out. Imagine a nice $100 cheque for an hours work? hm, sounds to good to be true, but it is possible. It is that easy and it can be fun to!

As a mom of two young children, I have seen more than my share of children’s television programs. However, one of my favorites has to be “Dora the Explorer.” Dora teaches children how to count and say words in Spanish, about patterns and matching, and so many other things. Interestingly enough, the “Dora the Explorer″ program can also teach adults many things about home business! I will illustrate this by discussing the three main characters.

DORA - Dora has many great characteristics, but her sense of adventure is what strikes me most. She has explored more places and done more things than anyone could ever imagine. Even though difficult situations arise from time to time, she does not let her fear control her life. She has faith in her abilities, no matter what challenges lie ahead. She sets goals for herself, and uses “Map” to plan her journey. She then sees things through from start to finish, and does not give up until she achieves her goal. In this way, she is also an awesome leader to her pal, Boots.

How does this relate to home business?
Whether you are searching for a business idea, starting a new business, or already have your own business, adventure is involved. It can be both exciting and scary at the same time. It can feel like you are exploring an unknown land. As a result, you will come across challenging situations and even be fearful at times. But whether you succeed or fail, will depend on if you let these situations control you or you instead take control of them. As well, being able to get past your fears will allow you to accomplish things you never thought possible. And once you get past the challenges and fears, you will find yourself on many journeys. As the saying goes, life is a journey and not a destination. To me, this means that life stops having meaning when you feel that you have “arrived.” Business is all about learning and growing. In order to grow, you need to be able to set goals so you know what you want to achieve with your business. This will allow you to evaluate whether you are advancing or not. It is also necessary to be an effective leader to others that work with you. You all want to work towards accomplishing a common goal.

BOOTS - He is Dora’s loyal sidekick. He is also her support team, and provides input to Dora on situations. He does not complain about the task that lies ahead. He shares a common goal and vision with Dora.

How does this relate to home business?
In business, you want to find someone who is there for you every step of the way. You want someone who is willing to travel the extra mile with you, even during difficult times. You want that person to lift you up instead of dragging you down. Therefore, it is important to associate with like-minded people who share common interests and goals. For example, it does not make sense to seek the advice of someone who is not where you want to be in life.

SWIPER - He is the mischievous fox that is always trying to keep Dora and Boots from reaching their goals. Swiper is sneaky. He sneaks up suddenly when they least expect him, and tries to foul up their plans.

How does this relate to home business?
Swiper represents all the things that can go wrong when you have your own business. Many people give up and never realize their goals and dreams. That is because there are mischievous people, who are like Swiper the Fox, who get in the way. They want to see you fail, and will say and do anything to keep you from getting ahead. It is known as “crab-in-the-bucket mentality.” One crab is trying to get out of the bucket, and all the other crabs in that same bucket keep pulling that one crab down. In addition to mischievous people, you will also run into challenging situations that occur when you least expect them. The difference between success and failure though, is how you deal with all of these people and the situations that arise.

In summary, Dora, Boots, and Swiper can teach adults a lot about home business. So the next time your children ask you to sit down with them to watch a television program, do so. You just never know what other business pointers you might learn!
